It is often not easy to sense God’s presence or to feel connected with God when we are struggling with difficult circumstances and feeling low. This is true not only as individuals, but also when as communities and organisations we are dealing with the effects of trauma, depression, or grief. How can we nurture hope and hold onto our faith in a God whose ‘mercies are not over’ in the times of pain and struggle?
Dr Annemarie Paulin-Campbell heads up the Spirituality work of the Jesuit Institute South Africa. For the past 18 years her primary focus has been the training and supervision of spiritual directors in the South African context and the giving of retreats. She has Masters Degrees in Psychology and in Christian Spirituality. Her doctoral research focused on the interface between Christian Spirituality and Psychology. She also works as a psychotherapist and is on the editorial board of Spiritus as well as being an editorial correspondent for The Way.
