Janet Ruffing on Mental Health And Mysticism

God is determined to reach out and have a relationship with every person, and does so through various means – music, nature, symbols, art, poetry, liturgy, dreams. That is a core belief of Dr Janet Ruffing, Professor in the Practice of Spirituality and Ministerial Leadership at Yale University. In an interview with Pat Coyle, Director of Irish Jesuit Communications and Sacred Space Online Prayer, when she was in Ireland in October 2011 at the invitation of the Spiritual Capital Ireland Centre co-founded by Dr Bernadette Flanagan, Dr Michael O’Sullivan, and Dr Michael Howlett, Janet began by telling about an encounter she had with a psychologist who was working with mentally ill people who were also having mystical experiences.
